DETROIT – Co-working space Bamboo Detroit and MP Consulting Group, a nonprofit fundraiser, will co-host the second annual Detroit Nonprofit Day conference June 15.

In partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy’s Center for Social Entrepreneurship, the daylong conference aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills required to grow their organization’s operations and meet the needs of those they serve.

Detroit Nonprofit Day features a networking breakfast and lunch, three track sessions for participants to choose from and a fireside chat delivered by keynote speaker Tonya Allen, president & CEO of the Skillman Foundation.

Other speakers at the event include Liz Gordillo, M.S.W., and Tamela Spicer, program managers of the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy, an academic center at Grand Valley State University; Cindy Eggleton, co-founder and CEO of Brilliant Detroit, an organization dedicated to building kid success neighborhoods; Larry Johnson, founder of LifeBUILDERS, a nonprofit working to reclaim, empower and build in Detroit’s Regent Park neighborhood; Chanel Hampton, founder and president of Strategic Community Partners, an organization that works with nonprofits in education, equity and justice; and Katie Brisson, vice president, program at Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, a nonprofit creating positive change in southeast Michigan through philanthropy.

The conference will kick off with an evening soiree hosted by Co.act Detroit, a nonprofit innovation center, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 14. Soiree tickets can be purchased separate from the conference for $50 on a limited basis. Soiree patrons will have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the speakers, leaders and up-and-coming innovators at this exclusive social.

“Many social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders are working in silos across Detroit,” said Amanda Lewan, CEO of Bamboo Detroit. “Bamboo is passionate about connecting leaders and supporting them with resources. Each year, this event provides them with space for important collaboration, networking and learning.”

Said conference co-host Monique Phillips, CEO of MP Consulting Group: “Detroit Nonprofit Day will offer novice and seasoned nonprofit professionals access to the knowledge and resources required to maximize their operations and achieve deeper impact and long-term sustainability.”

Detroit Nonprofit Day was created last year out of the tremendous popularity and success of the #GetFunded grant writing workshop series facilitated by MP Consulting Group at both Bamboo Detroit and the University of Detroit Mercy. The demand for more comprehensive and specialized training was so great that the three organizations partnered and assembled a full day of learning and strengths-building for those seeking to start or grow their nonprofit or social enterprise.

New Economy Initiative, Detroit Nonprofit Day’s largest sponsor to date, will sponsor the event’s breakfast. Other sponsors include University of Detroit Mercy’s Center for Social Entrepreneurship, Co.act Detroit, Strategic Community Partners, Techtown Detroit and Accelerate 4 Kids.
